You can use Setel to replace the dead battery in your car with Auto Assistance

There are going to be more things you will be able to settle with Setel. The mobile payment app fueled by Petronas is introducing an Auto Assistance feature that will be rolling out in phases to all Setel users soon.

Users with this feature will see a new tab in the carousel with a little car, wrench and flat head screwdriver with the text Auto Assistance written under it. With this, you’ll be able to do a number of things. Currently, there are two services available: the first is a battery replacement with prices starting from RM160, while the second is a jump start service with prices starting at RM50.

These are done in partnership with Bateriku which is a roadside assistance provider in Malaysia.

To use these services, simply pick the service you would like to use and complete the payment. Once that’s done a mechanic will be dispatched to your location. For example, should you need a battery replacement, when you hit the battery replacement tab it will bring you to a screen where it will let you choose between a couple of different battery options that will work with your car.

From here, the prices will also be listed and you can also opt to trade in your old battery to get a discount when you purchase a new one. According to the FAQ, it will take about 2-5 minutes for the service provider to contact you once you’ve submitted a request. And all job requests can’t be cancelled after payment has been made.

It also states that should the situation arise where you’ve selected and paid for a battery replacement, but the mechanic states that your battery is fine and just needs a jumpstart, you may make a request for the mechanic to process a partial refund. The same will also apply if you’ve requested for a jump start and the mechanic deems your battery faulty. Warranties or after sales services can also be directed to Bateriku.

For now, the Setel app will only support these two services (battery replacement and jumpstart) and we have no information on whether more will be added in the future. Though, judging by the name of the service, it would make sense that more services will come.

Of course, roadside battery replacement and jumpstart isn’t a particularly new service in Malaysia. I, through sheer stubbornness, have had to use a similar service Carput when my battery died on me. From what I can tell, the Setel process just makes it easier for users because it’s all in the app.

If you’ve registered for Setel’s automated number plate parking (for KLCC) for example, you won’t need to re-enter your number plate. Just select your car’s make and model. Payment is also done within the app so there’s no fumbling around with cash or QR codes for bank transfer when the mechanic is done with your car.
