Microsoft to launch new Surface lineup on 12 October, may feature Snapdragon processors

It’s been ten years now since Microsoft first revealed to the world the Surface, a Windows-powered tablet computer. Perhaps it’s fitting then that it’s also time for a brand new series of series of Surface devices to show up this 12 October, at 10pm local time. Featuring an image with ‘Save the date’ written on it—perhaps with a Surface Pen—Microsoft has announced that they’ll be hosting an event next month where they’ll be talking about devices.

As for what you can expect, the most obvious one would be a new series of Surface Pro 9 tablets. Word on the street is that they’ll be featuring 12th Gen Intel Core processors, with the base model reportedly featuring an Intel Core i5-1235U while the higher end model should pack an Intel Core i7-1255U. You can also expect them to come with up to 16GB of RAM and up to 1TB of storage, with a 13.5-inch display.

Another expected debutant is the Microsoft Surface Pro X SQ3. We’ve already seen two generations of the ARM-powered Surface Pro X, with the original SQ1 in 2019 and its successor the SQ2 in 2020. Microsoft will likely be leveraging on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 system-on-chip. One question that remains though is whether they’ll keep the Surface Pro X branding, or rebrand it as part of the Surface Pro 9 lineup.

Meanwhile, the 12 Oct event will likely also see Microsoft launch the Surface Laptop 5 lineup too. Details on this is a tad more scarce, but we can expect it to feature both 13.5-inch and 15-inch display options, with 12th Gen Intel processor under the hood. While the Surface Laptop 4 did come with both Intel and AMD-powered options, there’s no indication yet as to whether the Surface Laptop 5 will follow suit so we’ll just have to wait till next month to find out.
