YouTube lets you watch videos without ads for free, but only for educational content. This is how

YouTube‘s ad placements in the videos we watch on the platform can get incredibly excessive. So hearing about how YouTube lets you watch ad-free videos without needing to pay for a Premium account sounds great, but it’s only for educational content—through an embeddable video player.

The embeddable video player, which will only be open to select partners to start, will be able to show content on education apps without distractions like ads, external links, or recommendations. The select partners include education tech companies like EDpuzzle, Google Classroom, and Purdue University.

“Every day, teachers and students across the globe are using YouTube to learn, and YouTube Player for Education will help further learning in educational settings by allowing students to engage with new subjects distraction-free. We’re excited to be an early partner with YouTube to offer Player for Education and further EDpuzzle’s mission is to help students learn through video,” said Quim Sabrià, CEO and Co-founder of EDpuzzle.

Having a player solely for education is a great idea for students and classes that need to utilise YouTube for school. Many schools and students won’t be able to fun YouTube Premium accounts, and the excessive ads plays before, after, and during video streams can be distracting.

Additionally, YouTube announced new tools for creators making educational content on the platform. Starting next year, educational creators can offer free or paid courses for viewers. And the viewers who choose to buy a paid course can watch the videos ad-free and play it in the background. Courses will arrive first in the United States and South Korea in beta before expanding to more countries.

Youtube is also introducing Quizzes, which will roll out in beta over the coming months. The new quiz feature lets creators set up quizzes in the community tab on their channel that relates to the educational content they make.
