RapidKL announced that you’re able to purchase a buy-1-free-1 deal for their My50 passes—but only for a limited time. You’d need to register through their official Pulse app (iOS, Android) by 7 September and redeem both passes on 9 September. However, there are some things you should be aware of before you take on this offer.
“Get two passes for only RM50 if you and your friend can successfully redeem the My50 Buddy 2 for 1 offer,” wrote RapidKL on their Instagram post.
The offer seems enticing, but RapidKL worded their post a bit weird—because why would you need to say that users can claim the offer if they “can successfully redeem” them? Is there a possibility that most users won’t?
Claiming the passes also seem a bit complicated. You have to register by 7 September, latest. However, you are only able to redeem the My50 passes at two different locations, on 9 September. But before I delve into more of my concerns, here’s how you can redeem the offer step by step.
How to redeem the My50 Buddy 2 for 1 offer
- Download the official Pulse app (iOS, Android)
- Register for an account
- On its homepage, scroll down until you see the 9.9 My50 Buddy 2 for 1 promotion banner
- Press on the banner to reveal the promo’s campaign mechanics as well as its registration form
- Fill in the details required for both you and your friend before 7 September
- According to RapidKL, an email will be sent to you a day before the redemption day—which means that email will be sent to you on 8 September
- Redeem your two passes at either LRT KL Sentral (East Wing) or the Pasar Seni bus hub on 9 September
You need to be a new My50 pass subscriber in order to claim this offer. And both you and your friend must be present at the redemption locations in order to redeem the passes. I’d recommend that you read their terms and conditions on the app before proceeding.
What I’m concerned about is the fact that users can only claim the offer at two locations. If the offer is popular enough, this might lead to a worrying long line or large crowd—and we generally are still trying to avoid that during these tough times.
I was also looking through of the campaign’s wordings and found that—in RapidKl’s terms and conditions page—eligible entrants will only “stand a chance to receive two My50 passes at the price of one”. The deal is only valid for 30 consecutive days. This means that the users will have to pay RM50 each for the next month. The offer is still good for a month of the My50 pass for RM25 per person for a whole month, though.
If you aren’t familiar with what My50 is, it is an “unlimited travel pass that offers 30 days unlimited rides on Rapid KL LRT, MRT, Monorail, BRT, Rapid KL bus and MRT feeder bus services in Klang Valley”. For Penang and Kuantan, the service offers are different, so check their website for more information.
