Evan Blass, a well-known serial leaker who has leaked plenty of smartphone-related photos and news before, has recently reported that Apple will be launching a supposed “iPhone 14 mini” and a 10th-generation iPad with a 10.2-inch display on its launch event in September. However, Macrumors pointed out that the rumour is most likely incorrect based on other sources.
In Blass’ report, he says that he is “fairly confident in the accuracy” of the information, which was provided to him by an Asian partner. The new Apple devices that Blass says the partners are planning on stocking next month include iPhone 14, iPhone 14 mini, iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 14 Pro Max, as well as the iPad 10.2 (10th generation), iPad Pro 12.9 (6th generation), and iPad Pro 11 (4th generation).
However, the report that includes the iPhone 14 mini and the 10th-generation iPad with a 10.2-inch display is likely wrong. In April of last year, reputable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo and other sources reported that the iPhone 14 lineup will not include an iPhone 14 mini.
The lineup will instead consist of the 6.1-inch iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro—as well as two 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Max and iPhone 14 Pro Max. Additionally, the iPhone 14s’ 48-megapixel camera will create videos and images “more suitable for AR/MR devices” and that will “enhance the AR/MR user experience”.
In June of this year, industry analyst Ross Young reports that the 10th-generation iPad will feature a larger 10.5-inch display as part of a rumored redesign of the device—not a 10.2-inch display. The iPad is also expected to be equipped with the A14 Bionic chip, the same as the 4th-gen iPad Air.
And while Blass’ report claims that the Apple distributor is preparing to stock new iPad models in September, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman in his recent newsletter said he expects the new iPads and Macs to be announced at an October event. Gurman’s claim makes sense as it fits his report that iPadOS 16 and macOS Ventura will be released in October, as well.
Apple’s September event is reportedly where the company is planning to announce the iPhone 14 according to Gurman. It would be the earliest iPhone launch since 2016 and be—followed by the new device going on sale on 16 September. That’s about a week ahead of last year’s schedule.
Blass is usually pretty trustworthy for accurate leaks. Previously, he posted the leaked photos of the Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 ahead of 2021’s Samsung Unpacked event.
