Instagram doesn’t like that users have been using Reels to edit videos before posting on TikTok

Apparently, the editing tools in Instagram Reels are more convenient to use than the tools on TikTok. A lot of users have also been editing their content on Reels, but are posting them on TikTok instead—without posting on Instagram first. Instagram doesn’t like that, and they have made it harder for users to keep doing so.

Personally, I’m more of a TikTok user myself, and I’ve never really ventured too far into Instagram Reels. So I didn’t actually know that the editing tool on Instagram was more preferable. I just kind of suffered through TikTok’s flaws as I posted.

A flaw on TikTok includes the fact that the app doesn’t allow you to use some filters when starting with footage filmed outside the app. It also doesn’t allow you to download clips that aren’t finished or watermarked.

Instagram, however, is more flexible when editing. You can even download clips that you haven’t posted yet either—and users had taken advantage of it to post on TikTok.

Now, The Verge reports that there is a flaw when trying to download an edited clip from Instagram—the audio from the clip disappeared. The only way to extract footage (with sound) from Reels to use in another app now is to actually post the Reel first. But while the audio disappears when you try to download an unposted clip from Instagram Reels on iPhone, The Verge says that you can still save the audio if you use an Android.

Even though Instagram’s change is likely to try and encourage more TikTok users to switch to Instagram Reels, I wouldn’t count on it. Recently, there has even been a trend and inside joke of sorts amongst TikTok users making fun of Reels users—the joke is that Reels users will always be lightyears behind on trends and news.
