Following the ‘cybersecurity incident’ suffered by payment gateway platform iPay88 last week, Bank Negara Malaysia had begun instructing banks and card issuers to inform cardholders if their card details were compromised. As far as we can tell, banks have indeed begun contacting these users, with eWallet and Visa prepaid card provider KiplePay formally issuing a press statement over it too.
According to KiplePay, they have begun notifying affected cardholders of additional protective measures being taken to protect them in light of a ‘recent third party payment gateway provider data breach’. We also spoke to a representative from KiplePay who can confirm that they will be offering a free replacement of cards to those unfortunately affected by the data breach.
KiplePay users can perform the free card replacement either by using the Kiple app and requesting for it there, or contacting their customer service at +603 3000 8929 or email them at support@kiplepay.com. It’ll take roughly 14 days for the replacement card to arrive, and any fee deducted off your card or eWallet for a card replacement will be refunded back to you during the same time frame.

Of course, it’s not just KiplePay users who are affected by the iPay88 breach. Your bank may be or might already have contacted you over your card data being potentially compromised, and if so you will need to head to bank to replace your card too; in the meantime, you might want to look out for any notification from your bank, and to also check for any irregular or unauthorised transactions on your card.
