Together with the Galaxy Z Flip 4, Samsung has today revealed the Galaxy Z Fold 4 too during their Galaxy Unpacked event. However, it’s not the major feature update you might’ve expected, as this edition of the tablet-esque foldable smartphone brings mostly minor tweaks and improvements to the overall user experience.

The most obvious change you might notice is that the Galaxy Z Fold 4 is now a little shorter and a little wider than its predecessors. It measures 155.1mm high and 130.1mm wide when unfolded—in comparison the Galaxy Z Fold 3 measured 158.2mm high and 128.1mm wide unfolded. It’s lighter too, weighing 8g less than last year’s foldable, weighing in at just 263g. Just like other Samsung foldables, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 will come with Armor Aluminum frames too.

As for the displays, the main display is a 7.6-inch QXGA+ (2176 x 1812p) Infinity Flex Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with an adaptive refresh rate of up to 120Hz. The cover display meanwhile is a 6.2-inch HD+ (2316 x 904p) Dynamic AMOLED 2X display also with an adaptive refresh rate of up to 120Hz, though unlike the main display which can go down to 1Hz, the cover screen can only do as low as 48Hz. For protection, the main display’s durability is apparently enhanced with an ‘optimised layer structure’, while the cover display and back are covered with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus+.

Under the hood, it packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 system-on-chip with 12GB of RAM as standard across all models. You’ll also be able to choose between 256GB, 512GB and 1TB of storage. S Pen support is also brought along from last year’s Galaxy Z Fold 3.

Perhaps the real biggest change with the Galaxy Z Fold 4 though is the software. This is the first device to come with Android 12L, the special feature drop of Android 12 that Google has been working on to be optimised for large-screen devices such as tablets and foldables. It brings with it features such as a taskbar on the main display as well as easier multitasking, drag and drop between Google apps and revamped UI to fully take advantage of the bigger display. The Android 12L will come with Samsung’s One UI 4.1.1 skin over it though.

In the camera department, the cover display has a cut out in it to house a 10MP, f/2.2 camera, while the main display has an under display 4MP, f/1.8 camera, providing a seamless full display when unfolded. For proper shots though, you have the choice of a triple rear camera setup with a 50MP, f/1.8 main camera flanked by a 12MP, f/2.2 ultrawide angle lens and a 10MP, f/2.4 telephoto shooter providing 3x optical zoom and 30x digital zoom. This means that it essentially has the same rear camera setup as the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22+.

Keeping the lights on meanwhile is a 4,400mAh battery that remains unchanged from the Galaxy Z Fold 3, with the same 25W fast charging speed too. There’s also 10W wireless charging and wireless powershare too. Other features of note include a side mounted fingerprint sensor, IPX8 water resistance and support for 5G, WiFi 6E, NFC and Bluetooth 5.2 connectivity. The Galaxy Z Fold 4 will come in Graygreen, Phantom Black, Beige and Burgundy, the latter of which is exclusive to the Samsung eStore.

As for how much it’ll cost, the base model Galaxy Z Fold 4 with 256GB of storage costs RM6,799, with the 512GB and 1TB models priced at RM7,299 and RM8,299 respectively. Pre-orders are now available and you can check out the Galaxy Z Fold 4 pre-order promo for Malaysia.
