After weeks of leaks and speculation, the Samsung Galaxy Unpacked has finally gotten underway, with one of the stars of the show being the Galaxy Z Flip 4, the foldable for the masses. At first glance though, you might not be able to tell the difference between the Galaxy Z Flip 4 and its predecessor, but Samsung has indeed made a couple of subtle tweaks here and there.

For starters, the overall build of the Galaxy Z Flip 4 is now ever so slightly smaller in height, measuring 165mm high when open, a millimeter less than its predecessor. It still comes with the same ‘Armor Aluminum’ frame that was also used in previous Samsung foldables, and the hinge is now also smaller and slimmer. You’ll also notice straighter edges made of a glossy metal frame, while the back comes in this hazy matte glass.

It’s display though is mostly unchanged from last year, with a 6.7-inch, FHD+ ‘Infinity Flex’ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display capable of pushing an adaptive 120Hz refresh rate, with ultra-thin glass over it as a protective layer. The cover display next to the cameras meanwhile is a 1.9-inch Super AMOLED display with a 260 x 512p resolution which you’ll be able to customise with new clock designs, backgrounds, GIFs and more.

Under the hood, it’s no surprise to see the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 here, the latest flagship staple in the Android smartphone scene. It’ll have up to 512GB of storage, but regardless of how much space you get you’ll have 8GB of RAM for use. It will come with Android 12 out of the box, with a One UI 4.1.1 skin over it.

As for its cameras, Samsung claims that they’ve given the Galaxy Z Flip 4 some significant upgrades in this department. Despite that, you’re still getting a main 12MP, f/1.8 wide-angle camera and a secondary 12MP, f/2.2 ultrawide-angle camera on the rear of the device next to the secondary display, just like its predecessor. These new shooters apparently have a 65% brighter sensor that should provide better shots in any lighting. The front camera meanwhile is a 10MP, f/2.4 shooter located in a cut out on the main display.

Elsewhere, Samsung may have fixed the biggest issue with the Galaxy Z Flip 3 with its latest flip phone by giving it a much larger battery, a 3,700mAh battery to be exact. While it doesn’t have a charger bundled along with it, you’ll be able to get it from 0% to 50% in just 30 mins with its 25W fast charging speeds. There’s wireless powershare too, along with 10W wireless charging.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 also has an IPX8 rating just like its predecessor for water resistance, allowing it to be submerged for up to 30 minutes in up to 1.5 meters of freshwater. You’ll also find a side-mounted fingerprint sensor along with support for 5G, WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.2 and NFC connectivity. It comes in Graphite, Pink Gold, Blue and Bora Purple colourways.

The Galaxy Z Flip 4 starts at RM4,099 for the one with 128GB of storage, with the 256GB and 512GB models costing RM4,399 and RM4,899 respectively. There will also be a Bespoke Edition of the Galaxy Z Flip 4 with 256GB priced at RM4,599, where you’ll be able to mix and match different colourways to different parts of the device.
