About five months ago, U Mobile introduced its Postpaid 38 plan which offers unlimited calls and 30GB high-speed data with no speed cap. At the moment, U Mobile Postpaid 38 users can fully utilise the 30GB data with no restrictions including hotspot. However, that will soon change in less than two weeks as U Mobile has quietly introduced a separate quota for hotspot usage.

Kenapa plan yang bukan unlimited data (Postpaid38=limited 30gb) akan ada hotspot quota 5gb?

Subscribers have recently received a message informing that their plan will get a new 5GB mobile hotspot quota and a new flat rate of 15 sen per SMS, which will take effect from 17th August 2022. This is bad news for those who depend on their postpaid plan for heavily for hotspot usage with more than 5GB per month.

At the time of writing, U Mobile’s website doesn’t reflect the 5GB hotspot quota for the Postpaid 38 plan which gives the impression that new subscribers can still enjoy the 30GB data freely regardless if it’s on the phone or shared via WiFi hotspot. It is only when you look into the FAQ, there’s a mention that subscribers will enjoy 30GB of high-speed data per month with no speed cap for mobile usage and an additional 5GB hotspot data. In addition, the SMS rate will be increased to 15 sen per SMS to all networks from the current 3 sen within U Mobile and 8 sen to other networks.

Overall, you are actually getting more data for your money since it is 30GB for mobile and 5GB for hotspot. However, 5GB for hotspot may not be sufficient for certain users and you’re likely required to pay more for extra hotspot quota. At the time of writing, hotspot add-on is still not listed as an option for Postpaid 38. On the Giler Unlimited Postpaid, U Mobile charges RM3 for 3GB of hotspot that’s valid for 3 days.

Thanks @azrenbakar for the tip!
