This post is brought to you by OPPO.
Most of you may be familiar with OPPO’s Reno Series, but for those of you who are just being acquainted, the smartphones in this series usually target the mid-range class. However, with the Reno8 Series, OPPO decided to deviate from what’s typically expected in this category.
A camera system that’s a class above
The Reno8 Pro 5G brings with it a lot of flagship features, thus being upgraded to the premium mid-range class. One prominent feature you will immediately notice and appreciate is the camera performance on the OPPO Reno8 Pro 5G.
Nestled in the primary camera is a 50MP, flagship-class Sony IMX766 image sensor with a 1/1.56” sensor size which features 1-micrometre pixels. There is also an 8MP ultra-wide Sony IMX355 camera and 2MP OV02B10 macro camera that gives the Reno8 Pro 5G added versatility.
OPPO then proceed to fit its self-developed MariSilicon X Neural Processing Unit (NPU) which debuted on their flagship Find X5 Pro 5G. Harnessing the power of computational photography, the MariSilicon X NPU is able to give this premium mid-range device some flagship-level camera performance, especially in low-light situations.
Using a feature called 4K Ultra Night Video, the Reno8 Pro 5G can produce clearer images with greater colour expression. This is partly achieved thanks to the MariSilicon X NPU, working in tandem with the SoC, to control exposure of the highlights, while still retaining details in the dark areas.
Speaking about the dark areas, the noise here is kept to a minimum by utilising complex AI noise reduction algorithms. What you get in the end is a bright and colourful 4K video with minimal noise.
Shooting photos at night with the Reno8 Pro 5G is no different as it’s also processed by the MariSilicon X NPU. One cool feature enabled by this image signal processor is night portraits.
Typically, creating a clear bokeh effect at night is difficult because there just isn’t much light information for the camera to work with. With assistance from the MariSilicon X, the Reno8 Pro 5G achieves clearer and more natural-looking portraits.
Not forgetting the selfie camera, it uses a Sony IMX709 sensor which OPPO co-developed with Sony. For the first time on a Reno series, Auto Focus makes a debut for the front camera on the Reno8 Pro 5G. So whether you’re taking a picture of a large group of people or with just two people, everyone will be kept in focus.
A display fast enough for work and play
You can then preview your selfies on the 6.7” FHD+ AMOLED display which features a 120Hz refresh rate. This makes navigating ColorOS 12.1, scrolling through your Instagram feed and swiping through your home screen to find a widget feel buttery smooth.
Where you will notice the benefit of a high refresh rate display is while playing games like PUBG Mobile, where you can enable 90FPS in the graphics settings for smoother gameplay.
Moreover, in supported games like PUBG Mobile, the Reno8 Pro 5G can support a touch sampling rate up to 1000Hz, so your inputs are converted into actions with little delay. Haptic feedback is delivered to your fingertips through an X-axis Linear Vibration Motor.
Satisfactory performance
Keeping up the performance of the Reno8 Pro 5G is a Mediatek Dimensity 8100 Max paired to 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage. After a lengthy gaming session, you can plug the Reno8 Pro 5G into the 80W SUPERVOOC charger to get to a 100% charge in just 28 minutes.
All these impressive components are housed in a streamlined unibody design that helps the Reno8 Pro 5G stand out from the pack. What you’re left with, is a smooth finish that eliminates the unappealing standalone camera bumps you’d find in most smartphones.
You can have your OPPO Reno8 Pro 5G in a new Glazed Green colour option along with Glazed Black.
