A month after announcing plans to fly to Dubai, Istanbul and London by the end of this year, AirAsia X has announced that it is resuming flights to more destinations in Australia and New Zealand with its Airbus A330 fleet. This brings the total number of planned AirAsia X destinations operating from Kuala Lumpur this year to 13.
According to the medium to long-haul carrier, guests can now book their flights from Kuala Lumpur to Auckland, Perth and Melbourne (Tullamarine) starting today. They will be starting these routes with three flights per week starting from November and plans to increase the frequency to daily flights by the first quarter of 2023.
One-way flight tickets to Perth start from RM499 while flights to Melbourne start from RM699. Meanwhile, one-way flight tickets to Auckland (transit via Sydney) start from RM1,999. For those who prefer to fly with AirAsia’s premium flatbed seats, the price starts from RM1,999 to Perth, RM2,999 to Melbourne, and RM5,999 to Auckland.
AirAsia X is also flying from Kuala Lumpur to Sydney starting in November and it costs from RM899 on way on economy and RM2,799 on premium flatbed. The promo fares are applicable for bookings made from now until 24th July 2022 for the travel period between 1st November 2022 to 26th March 2023.
AirAsia X CEO Benyamin Ismail said “We are thrilled to recommence our services to Australia and New Zealand as a core part of our expansion strategy with our famous great value fares for medium to long-haul travel.
“We are also pleased to announce our return to Melbourne Airport (Tullamarine) which offers more flexibility and connectivity for our guests travelling to and from the state of Victoria.
“In 2019, we flew over a million guests to both countries, which shows that Australia and New Zealand are important markets for us and we connected the same number of Australians and New Zealanders to Malaysia and across Asean. After a two-year hiatus, we are back stronger than ever and proud to renew our commitment to making medium to long-haul air travel affordable once again for everyone in this region as well as across Asean.
AirAsia X has recently announced that it has compensated 80% of cancelled bookings with over RM400 million worth of travel vouchers that are valid for 5 years. This also includes guests who didn’t use their RM499 unlimited travel passes that were sold in 2020. With the introduction of new routes, affected passengers are able to utilise the vouchers to travel to more destinations. The vouchers are sent via email and affected guests without an AirAsia member account are urged to register as a member in order to receive the travel vouchers.
Unlike credits, these AirAsia X travel vouchers come with their own specific terms and conditions. The good news is that the vouchers can be used during peak or holiday seasons on AirAsia X flights (D7) with no blackout dates. However, it only covers the base fare of the flight. This means you will still need to pay for airport taxes, additional fees or add-ons such as baggage, seats and onboard meals.
