It’s been more than a year since the Poco F3 debuted in Malaysia, and while we did get the Poco F4 GT, fans of the value-oriented smartphones have been clamouring for the non-GT variant for some time now. Following a teaser of it last week, Poco has finally unveiled the Poco F4 to our shores.
Poco F4 Malaysia pricing and availability
The Poco F4 will become available for purchase on the Poco official store on Shopee from the 27th of June onwards. Here’s how much they’ll cost you:
- Poco F4, 6GB RAM, 128GB storage – RM1,599
- Poco F4, 8GB RAM, 256GB storage – RM1,699
As usual though, Poco are running an early bird promotion where you can get the Poco F4 at RM100 less, at RM1,499 for the 6GB RAM model and RM1,599 for the 8GB RAM model. The early bird promo will last for just two days, from 27-28 June. You’ll also be able to pick from three different colourways for the Poco F4, namely Nebula Green, Moonlight Silver and Night Black.
Nevertheless, it might not be the same value bargain deal that Poco fans were perhaps expecting. While the top end Poco F4 does cost the same as the similarly specced Poco F3, the base model now starts higher at RM1,599 compared to the Poco F3’s RM1,399 starting price.
Poco F4 specs
The Poco F4 at first glance might not look that different to its predecessor, as they both share a similarly sized 6.67-inch, FHD+ AMOLED display. It runs at up to a 120Hz refresh rate, has a 100% coverage of the DCI-P3 colour gamut and has a 360Hz touch sampling rate. The display is capable of 900nits typical brightness and 1,300nits peak brightness. There’s support for Dolby Vision, TrueColor and HDR10+ too. You’ll find a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 5 over it for scratch resistance as well.
Under the hood, we again don’t see much of an upgrade from last year’s Poco F3. The Poco F4 has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 system-on-chip mated to up to 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage. It runs MIUI 13 out of the box. There is a minor upgrade in the cooling department though, as it now has a LiquidCool 2.0 7-layer graphite heat dissipation structure along with a 3,112mm² vapour chamber.
The camera department though is perhaps where the Poco F4 has received the biggest upgrade. You’ll still find a triple rear camera setup here, but the main camera is now a 64MP, f/1.79 shooter with optical image stabilisation (OIS), something that was dearly missed on the Poco F3. That gets flanked by an 8MP, f/2.2 ultrawide angle camera as well as a 2MP, f/2.4 macro lens. On the front of the device meanwhile is a 20MP, f/2.45 camera for selfies.
Elsewhere, there’s a 4,500mAh battery with 67W fast charging that Poco claims will be able to fully charge your device in just 38 minutes. You’ll also find dual stereo speakers, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor as well as support for 5G, Bluetooth 5.2 and WiFi 6. The Poco F4 weighs around 195g and measures 7.7mm thin. Long time Xiaomi users will also be pleased to know it has an IR blaster on it too.
