The MediaTek Dimensity 9000+ is just a slightly overclocked Dimensity 9000

When MediaTek debuted the Dimensity 9000 back in November 2021, it was their most powerful chip ever. It beat Qualcomm to the 4nm race, and offered a significant increase in performance over previous MediaTek silicon. Perhaps not one to rest on their laurels, MediaTek has now revealed the Dimensity 9000+, a souped up version of the Dimensity 9000+.

The Dimensity 9000+ system-on-chip is mostly similar to the original Dimensity 9000, with an 8-core configuration built on the 4nm process from TSMC. There’s a Cortex-X2 prime core, three Cortex-A710 performance cores and four more Cortex-A510 efficiency cores. The key upgrade here though is that the Cortex-X2 core is now running at a higher 3.2GHz, compared to 3.05GHz on the Dimensity 9000. The Cortex-A710 and Cortex-A510 cores meanwhile run at the same 2.85GHz and 1.8GHz speeds.

On top of that, the Mali-G710 MC10 GPU also gets a 5% clock speed boost, though MediaTek has not provided the specific speed it runs at. According to MediaTek, these two clock speed bumps allows the Dimensity 900+ to provide a 5% boost in CPU performance and a more than 10% improvement in GPU performance.

“Building on the success of our first flagship 5G chipset, the Dimensity 9000+ ensures that device makers always have access to the most advanced high-performance features and the latest mobile technologies, making it possible for their top-tier smartphones to stand out,” – Dr Yenchi Lee, Deputy General Manager of MediaTek Wireless Communications Business Unit

Other than that though, it really is just a Dimensity 9000 still. You can still expect LPDDR5X RAM support, a MediaTek Imagiq 970 image signaling processor, an integrated 5G modem supporting sub-6Ghz 5G, WiFi 6E as well as Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity.

MediaTek says that you can expect smartphone manufacturers to introduce devices using the Dimensity 9000+ sometime in Q3 this year. For more about the MediaTek Dimensity 9000+, you can check out its full announcement here.
