If you were trying to work or just simply surf the internet only to find large swathes of error messages popping up, you were not alone. Cloudflare, one of the biggest Internet companies in the world, has just got back up online after experiencing service issues that affected a large number of websites across the world.
Plenty of major websites and services such as Discord, Crunchyroll, Medium were reportedly down for many users, while Malaysians also reported that local sites and services like Foodpanda and Malay Mail went down too. In the meantime, a few of us here in the SoyaCincau office were still able to access the internet, but only when using hotspot off certain mobile networks.
Cloudflare has since confirmed the issue at 2.43pm Malaysian time, and at 2.57pm has also identified the problem. According to Cloudflare, a critical incident was declared at approximately 2.34pm, which wiped out connectivity in Cloudflare’s network across several regions. You’ll know if you’ve hit into an Cloudflare site or service when you get a 500 error message.
They have since just implemented a fix for it, and are monitoring the results. Services may still be glitchy for you, but should be back online very soon.
