You might have seen hilarious (but cursed AF) AI images of the wildest prompts people can come up with online. The viral generator, Dalle E, is able to create images “from text captions for a wide range of concepts expressible in natural language”—here’s how you can try it out.
What is Dalle E?
Dalle E is a “trained neural network” that can generate images from really specific text descriptions. According to its site, Dalle E has a diverse set of capabilities, including creating “anthropomorphised versions of animals and objects, combining unrelated concepts in plausible ways, rendering text, and applying transformations to existing images”.
This resulted in a huge curiousity amongst the online community to make the most ridiculous AI generated images. There are even several Twitter accounts that have compiled some of the best ones.
If you’ve noticed looking through Dalle E images, there are results that are more detailed and higher quality than some others. Some results, like the one above, were done with Dall E 2—which generates “more realistic and accurate images with 4x greater resolution” but you’d need to be on a waitlist to try it out. The majority, however, are done with the free-to-use Dalle E mini.
Dall-E was first invented in 2021, which was able to take a written suggestion and turn it into an entirely new AI-generated image. But the images are closer to the results of the Dall E mini now. Despite the differences in quality, you’re still able to use the mini right now to generate whatever you can think of.
How to use Dalle E mini?
- Click this link to take you to the Dalle E mini generator
- Type in the prompt you’d like the Dalle E mini to generate. I’d recommend being as specific as possible
- Press “Run”
- It might take a few minutes for the Dalle E mini to create the results
As the generator is extremely popular now, the generator might not work due to “too much traffic”. But don’t give up! Press “Run” every few minutes until the “too much traffic” notification doesn’t show up.
The results—depending on what you’re looking for—are often entertaining and surprising. I would have never imagined seeing a distorted Chris Evans performing on a K Pop stage, but this AI generator can certainly cook you something close to it.
Granted, the results aren’t as cool as the images generated through Dalle E 2, but it’s fun to see what AI can come up with based on a ridiculous prompt. Still, the neural network isn’t perfect and has a reported problem with racial biases.
“While the extent and nature of the biases of the Dall E mini model have yet to be fully documented, given the fact that the model was trained on unfiltered data from the Internet, it may generate images that contain stereotypes against minority groups,” said Dalle E.
This isn’t a new thing at all. There are previous AI generators that have several racial and gender bias, like the ‘face depixeliser’. Critics have also warned AI risks bias against minorities and marginalised groups.
