The Hyundai Kona electric is a rather odd car. It accelerates like a proper sports car does, which feels absolutely unreal when you consider the ride height and interior decor. You’re always in the power band, and if you set regenerative braking at stage 2, you get a nice predictable deceleration that’s great for corner entry so you can almost one foot it even in the twisties.
But, when you hit the corner hard, you are immediately reminded of the fact that you’re not in a sports car. That you are in fact in a grocery-getter. A practical round-town-er. The tyres squeal at the slightest force, the body rolls at the slightest tug of the wheel and under acceleration, you can feel the front end go very light.
It’s definitely not a canyon carver. But every time you put your right foot down and feel it silently throw you back into your seat—the smile it puts on your face is priceless.
