Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 2 leaks online with upgraded processors and Windows 11

The Microsoft Surface Laptop Go first debuted in late 2020, and positioned itself as a cheaper alternative to those who want a Surface Laptop at a lower price. It’s been almost two years though since its launch, and so it’s perhaps time for a refresh, which a new leak in Korea claims will be sooner rather than later.

As spotted by The Verge, a Korean retailer had seemingly accidentally listed the Surface Laptop Go 2 a little bit too early. The listing has since been taken down, but not before people were able to get some details about the Surface Laptop Go 2. The biggest change here will be its use of 11th Gen Intel processors, with the aforementioned listing in particular coming with an Intel Core i5-1135G7 and Intel Iris Xe integrated graphics. It’s a little peculiar that Microsoft isn’t opting for 12th Gen Intel Core processors here, but they aren’t exactly known for using latest generation silicon either.

It will also supposedly come with up to 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of storage, though there’s no mention of its base specs for now. Earlier reports did hint at the Surface Laptop Go 2 coming with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage though. We’ll be interested to see what type of storage in particular will be used; the base model of the original Surface Laptop Go from 2020 had 4GB of RAM and 64GB of eMMC storage, rather than SSD storage.

Other than that, it’s also safe to assume that it will come with Windows 11 out of the box too. The listing had mentioned 13.5 hours of battery life too, along with a 720p webcam that will supposedly offer an “improved HD camera performance”.

You’ll likely still get the same 12.4-inch PixelSense display with its 1536 x 1024p resolution in a 3:2 aspect ratio, while the keyboard also seems to be the same one from the original Surface Laptop Go that isn’t backlit. The port selection appears to be the same too, with a USB-A port, a USB-C port, a Surface connector and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The power button also doubles as a fingerprint sensor for biometric security.

As a refresher, the original Surface Laptop Go launched in Malaysia for just RM2,758. However, that only got you a 10th Gen Intel Core i5-1035G1 with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of eMMC storage. You had to cough up RM3,388 at least to get 8GB of RAM and 128GB of SSD storage, with the top spec model costing you RM4,288 for 256GB of storage.

Overall, the Surface Laptop Go 2 does look as though it’ll be mostly the same as its predecessor barring a processor upgrade, though we’ll have to wait for a full announcement from Microsoft to know for sure. The Korean listing had mentioned that pre-orders were to begin on the 2nd of June, so Microsoft could be set to announce the Surface Laptop Go 2 anytime soon now. It would likely still be Microsoft’s cheapest device in their Surface Laptop range though, seeing as the Surface Laptop SE never made it to Malaysia officially. If you’re in the market for a new laptop, would you be interested in a Surface Laptop Go 2?
