Swift 3 OLED: Acer finally has a laptop with an OLED display

The Acer Swift 3 has arguably been one of their popular laptops in the past number of years, thanks to a great price point while still offering solid hardware in a sleek chassis. It’s now getting a refresh from Acer, with the Taiwanese company finally joining the rest of the industry by introducing a laptop with an OLED display in the form of the Swift 3 OLED.

Gone are the usual FHD panels here, with the new Swift 3 OLED getting a 14-inch, 16:10 WQXGA+ (2.8k) OLED display with a 92% screen-to-body ratio. It has a 90Hz refresh rate with a <0.2ms response time, as well as a peak brightness of 500nits. The display covers 100% of the DCI-P3 colour gamut and is VESA DisplayHDR True Black 500-certified too. The chassis itself meanwhile is built out of an aluminum chassis and weighs just 1.4kg while bring 17.9mm thin. Acer are also incorporating the use of sustainable materials with a touchpad made of ocean-bound plastic waste.

Under the hood, the new Swift 3 OLED gets powered by 12th Gen Intel Core H-series chips, though Acer did not list which processors in particular are being used. There won’t be any dedicated graphics here though, so you’ll need to be content with Intel Iris Xe graphics. You’ll also get up to 16GB of LPDDR5 memory and PCIe Gen 4 SSD storage. Acer also didn’t reveal the battery specifications, but seeing as the Swift 3 OLED is an Intel Evo device, you can expect at least 10 hours of battery life, along with over 4 hours of battery life after just a 30-minute charge.

Elsewhere, the backlit keyboard uses an air inlet design for 10% more heat dissipation over regular keyboards, while the Swift 3 OLED’s FHD webcam uses Acer’s Temporal Noise Reduction technology to provide better video quality even in low light conditions. Acer has also upgraded the Swift 3 OLED’s connectivity with WiFi 6E.

There’s no local pricing and availability details just yet, but we do know that the Swift 3 OLED will start at USD899.99 (~RM3,964.46) in other regions. That means that it likely won’t be as affordable as Swift 3 laptops of yesteryear, but you are getting a significant upgrade in the form of an OLED display here. It’s also nice to see OLED panels make their way into more mainstream devices, rather than just being reserved for more high-end laptops.
