The replacement holiday for Labour Day will transfer automatically to Wednesday instead of Monday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced today.
He clarified the matter after the Keeper of the Ruler’s Seal Tan Sri Syed Danial Syed Ahmad announced on Sunday evening that Malaysia will celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri on May 2.
The PM said the shift was in line with the Holidays Act 1951 and the relevant Ordinances in Sabah and Sarawak.
“This automatic replacement holiday does not apply to Kedah, Terengganu, Kelantan, and Johor as Labour Day falls on a working day in these states,” Ismail Sabri said in a statement.
“However, this is subject to the decision of the individual state authorities to make any further announcements regarding holidays.”
Earlier, the Kelantan government announced that it has shifted the special holiday announced for Friday, May 4, to this Wednesday, in response to Syed Danial’s announcement.
The PM’s clarification came after it was announced that Malaysia would observe the first day of Aidilfitri on Monday instead of Tuesday as had been suggested by the country’s religious authorities.
