If you’re using a Samsung Galaxy S22, S22+ or the S22 Ultra, you can now access the Yes 5G service in Malaysia after a software update. The update is available now and it carries the latest 1st May 2022 security patch level.
If you haven’t received the notification yet, you can check manually by going to Settings > Software Update. It is best to connect to WiFi to download the update which is about 630MB in size.
This is the second Galaxy series to support Yes 5G after Samsung had pushed an update for the Galaxy S21 lineup last month. Other 5G-ready Galaxy devices including the Galaxy Z Fold 3, Z Flip 3 and Galaxy A series are still not supported yet.
At the moment, YTL Communications’ Yes 5G is still the only provider in Malaysia to offer commercial 5G services. If you want to give the service a try, Yes 5G is offering a free SIM Pack that comes with unlimited 5G data for 30 days. Yes has recently announced that it will continue to provide unlimited 5G data until further notice on their RM30 Yes FT5G Prepaid unlimited and RM49 Yes FT5G Postpaid 49 plans.
According to Yes 5G’s coverage map, the 5G network by Digital Nasional Berhad is now available in selected areas of Kuala Lumpur, Klang, Rawang, Putrajaya, Cyberjaya and Johor Bahru.
