Touch ‘n Go has officially launched its new Enhanced TNG cards with NFC which allows users to reload using their NFC-enabled smartphones. With limited stocks, it appears that some scalpers are taking advantage of the situation by selling the new TNG cards online at exorbitant prices.
A quick search on Shopee reveals a listing for the new TNG card that’s currently going for RM69, which is seven times the actual retail price. As a reference, Touch ‘n Go is selling the new cards for RM10 and if you can get order one from the TNG eWallet app, there’s a shipping fee of RM5.
Another listing on Shopee is selling the new TNG card for RM65 and it claims to offer free shipping and 10% cashback. This particular store claims to have 50 cards available. Do note that the new cards come with zero preloaded value, so you’re paying a high price for an empty card.
As we’ve mentioned previously, the only extra feature for the card is the ability to reload by tapping on a smartphone. The payment usage of the card remains the same as you can use it for highway tolls, public transport, parking, vending machine and also with the SmartTAG device. This is great if you always reload your TNG card regularly and don’t want to waste time looking for a TNG reload kiosk or counter. It also supports PayDirect when you link the card to your eWallet.
During the launch of the new TNG card, Touch ‘n Go said it expects demand for the upgraded cards to be very high. It added that due to the global chip shortage, the demand for the cards will exceed supply. At the time of writing, the cards are out of stock on the TNG eWallet app. We managed to purchase our cards at the Touch ‘n Go hub at Nu Sentral two weeks ago and it isn’t clear when they will restock.
If you want to transfer credit from your old TNG card to the new one, you can submit an eRefund request from Touch ‘n Go. Once approved, they can transfer the credit to your eWallet. Here’s a step-by-step TNG card refund guide.
