Acer’s ‘recycled’ laptop just got a new Nat Geo themed special edition, priced at RM4,299

Late last year, Acer Malaysia launched the Acer Aspire Vero, a laptop that had a body built out of post-consumer recycled plastic as part of Acer’s sustainability drive. For the eco-conscious among you who are also fans of National Geographic, Acer now has the Aspire Vero National Geographic Edition complete with the iconic National Geographic logo on the chassis available for pre-order in Malaysia soon.

Acer Aspire Vero Nat Geo Edition Malaysia pricing and availability

There will just be one model of the Acer Aspire Vero National Geographic Edition coming to Malaysia, with a Core i7-1195G7, 16GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD. It will be priced at RM4,299 with pre-orders beginning on the 1st of May till the 31st of July on the Acer eStore as well as the Acer official store on Shopee.

Incidentally, the launch of this new National Geographic special edition means that Acer Malaysia are also slashing the price of the original Acer Aspire Vero laptop in Malaysia. When the Aspire Vero first debuted on our shores last November, it was priced at RM3,399 for the Core i5-1155G7 model while the higher spec Core i7-1195G7 model had a RM4,299 price tag. From 1 May onwards though, these laptops will be priced at RM2,999 and RM3,699 respectively, a price cut of of RM400 and RM600.

Furthermore, Acer Malaysia will also be running a trade-in program where Malaysians can drop off their old devices at Acer concept stores or their Highpoint service centers. Doing so at the former gets you a cash rebate worth up to RM500 while doing so at the latter gets you a promo code worth up to RM500. You can then use them at the Acer eStore and Acer official store on Shopee respectively to either purchase an Aspire Vero or to pre-order an Aspire Vero Nat Geo Edition.

On top of that, those who use Maybank credit cards on the Acer eStore when purchasing or pre-ordering will be able to get an additional 5% off before final payment. The first 50 units of the Acer Aspire Vero Nat Geo Edition will also ship with a free Vero Mouse and Vero Mousepad worth RM178.

Every purchase of the Aspire Vero and Aspire Vero Nat Geo Edition during the 1 May to 31 July period will also come with the option for a free gift worth up to RM199 or Touch n’ Go eWallet credit worth RM120. And perhaps the best part is that with every Aspire Vero Nat Geo Edition purchased, RM100 will be channeled to fund tree adoption in Malaysia, while also supporting the National Geographic Society.

Acer Aspire Vero Nat Geo Edition specs

The Acer Aspire Vero Nat Geo Edition has a pretty stand out design especially when compared to your regular thin-and-light. For starters, the overall body is built out of 30% post-consumer recycled plastic which Acer says saves up to 21% in carbon emissions during the manufacturing process. There’s also 30% PCR plastic used in the bezels while the keycaps use 50% PCR plastic. To ensure that it won’t become e-waste, Acer has designed the Aspire Vero to be easily repaired too.

The National Geographic touch though comes through with several diagonal lines across the top cover of the laptop that’s been inspired by a topographic map. According to Acer, these lines ‘divide the surface into land and sea’ and is supposed to call attention to the impact of global warming on rising sea levels. There’s also the iconic National Geographic logo imprinted onto the bottom right corner of the keyboard, with the line ‘For Planet Earth’ printed onto the spacebar of the keyboard. It measures 17.9mm thick and weighs 1.8kg.

As for the actual hardware involved, you’ll find a 15.6-inch, FHD IPS display with an 11th Gen Intel Core i7-1195G7 processor under the hood. It’s mated to 16GB of DDR4 RAM and a 1TB SSD, while graphics get taken care of by the integrated Iris Xe graphics. Powering it is a 48Whr battery that should last you up to seven hours. There’s also the ability to switch between various eco modes such as Performance, Balanced, Eco and Eco+ which gets you extreme battery saving with various functions disabled.

You’ll also find for connectivity, WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1 support, while for I/O there’s a HDMI 2.0 port, a USB-C 3.2 Gen 1 port, an Ethernet port, two USB-A ports and a 3.5mm audio combo jack. You’ll also find a 720p webcam above the display.

Continuing its eco-conscious theme, the packaging that the Aspire Vero Nat Geo Edition comes in is designed to be the Nat Geo logo and is 100% recyclable too, with no LDPE foam or plastic bags at all. You can even reuse the inner packaging as a multipurpose box while the inner partition can be folded into a stand that you can use to prop up the laptop.
