This post is brought to you by Samsung.
With the launch of the all-new Samsung Galaxy S22 lineup and the introduction of the S Pen into the series, more users will have access to the S Pen and the joys that come with it. This is the first time the S Series will get an integrated Note experience with a built-in S Pen, so let’s go over what’s new with the S Pen and how you can maximise your note-taking experience.
Ultra-fast S Pen in the Galaxy S22 Ultra
The S Pen could be used with the S21 Ultra, but this is the first time that it is living inside an S Series phone. The convenience of having the pen inside the device is what fans loved about the Galaxy Note series. Instead of carrying it in a separate case, you can just pull it out of the device and use it when you need it. This is extremely useful during situations like quickly writing down a phone number or jotting down ideas.
Previously with the Galaxy Note20 Ultra and the S Pen, you could get latency as low as 9ms. This was already impressive, but Samsung managed to bring it down all the way to 2.8ms for the Galaxy S22 Ultra. This means the Galaxy S22 Ultra’s S Pen experience is three times more responsive than with the Galaxy Note20 Ultra. Samsung managed this feat with better hardware, increasing the number of signal loops per second from 360 with the Galaxy Note20 Ultra to 400 with the Galaxy S22 Ultra.
But what does this low number actually mean and how does it affect your S Pen experience? A lower number means it feels even closer to writing on actual paper. With 2.8ms of latency, the Galaxy S22 Ultra provides the most realistic drawing and writing experience yet on a Samsung device.
In addition to lower latency, Samsung enhanced the accuracy of the S Pen by combining AI technology with a multipoint algorithm, instead of a single point system. When you’re drawing, this will help your curved lines look more natural, just like you’re drawing on paper.
Three ways to maximise your note-taking experience with the S Pen
1. Transform your handwriting into text
With the Galaxy Note devices, Samsung already included a handwriting-to-text feature, but they greatly improved it for the Galaxy S22 Ultra. It can now convert your handwritten notes to text with even better accuracy. This better recognition extends to the “write in text input box” feature, allowing you to write names and emails by hand instead of typing them.
To top it all off, the handwriting-to-text feature is now available for even more people as Samsung added recognition for up to 88 languages.
2. Save content easily with the Quick Notes
Whether you’re browsing the internet or even reading through texts, sometimes you need to save content really quickly. Luckily for you, Samsung’s Quick Notes allows you to easily add content or links straight into Samsung Notes.
When you find something you want to save, you can bring up Samsung Notes with Air Actions as a pop-up or split screen on Samsung Internet, Gallery and Messages. After activating it, you can easily save the content for future reference, and even add your own comments in the note.
3. Express your artistry with the S Pen
If you’ve ever done digital art before, then you would be no stranger to Clip Studio Paint. It’s one of the most popular programs to use for drawing and painting on both computers and tablets. One of the most fun ways to use the Galaxy S22 Ultra and the S Pen is to use it as a palette and colour picker while you draw with Clip Studio Paint on your Galaxy Tab S8 series tablets.
You can even use Air Actions for common shortcuts like Redo, Quick Share, and Flip Horizontal when drawing with a Galaxy device. You can customise these shortcuts and gestures to make drawing as comfortable as possible.
Whether you’re taking notes, saving content or making art, the Galaxy S22 Ultra and the S Pen are a perfect match when it comes to creativity and productivity.
