Asus ROG Phone 5s Hardware Specs

The Asus ROG Phone 5s has a 6.78” FHD+ AMOLED display with HDR10+ support. Being a gaming smartphone, the display has a 144Hz refresh rate with a pixel response time of 1ms. Under the hood, there is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888+ processor coupled with 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 128GB of UFS3.1 storage. There is also a 16GB of RAM and 256GB of storage option. You will find that the Snapdragon 888+, though a generation old, is still up to the task of gaming at FHD+ resolution.

Upfront, there is a 24MP camera for selfies and for recording yourself during gameplay. Turning to the back, there is a primary 64MP wide-angle camera that uses Sony’s flagship-class IMX686 sensor. In addition, you also get a 13MP ultra-wide-angle lens and a 5MP macro lens.

There is a ROG logo lit with ROG Dot Matrix RGB lights at the back. To provide a wider soundstage from the dual front-firing stereo speakers, Asus worked with a digital audio signal processor manufacturer, Cirrus. If you still use wired headphones, you have the option of a 3.5mm headphone jack.

The ROG Phone 5s also incorporates Air Trigger 5 which are touch-sensitive shoulder buttons located on the right frame. For this version, users can assign two gesture controls for each shoulder button. Previously, you had to choose to assign a swipe or slide gesture, but now you can assign both gestures simultaneously if you so choose.

All the gaming features and settings can be accessed via the Asus Game Genie software. Besides using it to configure the controls, you can also access “do not disturb” mode, performance profiles, floating window, and macro shortcuts among others.

As for connectivity, you can expect all modern protocols to be present like 802.11ax WiFi 6e, Bluetooth 5.2 with support for Qualcomm aptX for low latency audio streaming, and a 5G modem.

Keeping the lights on is a dual-cell 6,000mAh battery with support for 65W HyperCharge fast charging via USB-C. A dual-cell design means that the battery pack is split into two, smaller 3,000mAh batteries. Asus has also included some power management features like allowing the phone to be powered directly via cable, bypassing the battery. This would produce less heat and can help to prolong the battery’s lifespan.

Out of the box, the Asus ROG Phone 5s runs on ROG UI on top of Android 11. We have covered the full list of accessories available for the device here.
