Samsung created a Guinness World Record for most Galaxy S22 unboxings. Here’s what the experience is like

Samsung India created a new Guinness World Record on 5 March 2022, and the record itself is a little bit unusual. It’s for “most people unboxing simultaneously” and it involved 1820 simultaneous unboxings of the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra across 17 cities.

“It is my pleasure to announce that Samsung India Electronics Private Limited has set a new record for ‘Most people unboxing simultaneously—multiple venues’ with 1820 successful participants. This fabulous event was organised across 19 venues and the delighted participants got their phone and became part of a record. A never been done before attempt, I congratulate Samsung on being officially amazing,” said Swapnil Dangarikar, official adjudicator of the Guinness World Records.

The event itself consisted of select customers who had pre-booked the Galaxy S22 Ultra. It was done simultaneously across 17 cities in India—including New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Pune, Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Ludhiana, Patna, and Indore, amongst others.

As for what it was like to be one of those lucky customers, quite a few of them have posted their experiences on YouTube. The experience included getting your own space on a table in a large hall with other Samsung fans, and getting a set of rules to follow. Participants were not allowed to open up the box until the announcement by the emcee, and they were only allowed to unbox the phone on their own.

The limited-edition box itself not only contained the Galaxy S22 Ultra device, but it also had the Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Buds 2. A note accompanied the bundle, thanking fans for their support.

We were able to find several vlog-style videos, but the short video above encapsulated what it would have been like to be there. Despite the amount of people in one hall, people were fairly social-distanced as they had their own space. And rather than a frantic and fast unboxing experience like what I imagined, the event itself had people carefully opening up the boxes. And with good reason—they’re pretty pricey.

The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra 5G’s price starts at RM5,099 for the 128GB version, and goes up to RM5,899 for the 512GB version. You can read more about what makes the device great here.
