Do you need a 5G phone in Malaysia now? | Ask Us Anything

Welcome back to another episode of Ask Us Anything where we gather your questions from the internet and answer them. On today’s episode, we are going to talk about the new TNG card with NFC support. But the question is when will it arrive in Malaysia? Also, is now the best time to get a phone with 5G or you should just stick to a regular 4G phone?

When will the TNG card with NFC support be available?

So earlier this year, TNG has actually announced that they will be introducing their new physical TNG card with NFC support. If you guys are not familiar with this, the new card will allow users to top up directly via ewallet.

This should be similar to Hong Kong’s Octopus card where users can top up by tapping it on the back of an NFC-enabled smartphone.

They mentioned that the new card will be launched in a few weeks but for now there are no details yet on when it will be official. But do stay tuned to soyacincau because we will definitely cover this if it’s officially here.

How much is the iPhone 11 now?

Currently if you look at the official Switch store on Shopee, the iPhone 11 is going for as low as RM2,339 for the 64GB version while the ones with 128GB of storage is going for RM2,539. But if you are looking for the Pro version, unfortunately it isn’t available in the market now. Same goes to the iPhone 11 Pro Max.

As a comparison, the iPhone 13 is priced from RM3,849 for the base 128GB model and it goes all the way up to RM5,299 for the 512GB model.

What is causing your Android phone to overheat

So usually when a phone gets too hot, the heat is usually coming from the phone’s processor or the battery. But it is normal for your phone to overheat sometimes. If you are someone who uses your phone for a long period of time, or if you have too many active apps running in your background, it is bound to overheat. Sometimes, you may also experience overheating due to malware and misbehaving software.

If you are experiencing overheating issues for no apparent reasons, you can check out the apps that you have recently downloaded. Sometimes, buggy apps can be the cause of overheating and updating the apps can usually fix these kinds of problems.

Overheating issues can also be caused by us using our phone under direct sunlight. For example, if you are using Waze in your car means that your phone is exposed to direct sunlight. To avoid overheating, you can put something over your phone or maybe just don’t use your smartphone until you find a shade.

Do you need a 5G smartphone now?

So if you have read Alex’s article about 5G, you will know that our 5G coverage here in Malaysia is far from ready. If you are interested in reading the article, links are in the description box below.

But generally 5G compatible smartphones are everywhere and they are pretty affordable too. And to be honest the price difference between a non 5G phone and a 5G phone is pretty minimal. Most new mid-range and even entry-level chips from MediaTek and Qualcomm offer 5G as standard. So yes, definitely go for the 5G phone if you can.

Take note that only Yes is offering 5G today, while other telcos such as Celcom, Digi, Maxis and U Mobile have yet to offer 5G services. If you’re thinking of futureproofing, you should get the latest model if possible as it offers more years of Android and security updates.

If you have any questions related to tech that you would like to ask us, please leave them I the comments section below and we will answer them in the next episode of Ask Us Anything.
