In conjunction with MWC 2022, Poco has officially announced the X4 Pro 5G. This is their upgraded mid-range smartphone that comes with an AMOLED display and 5G connectivity. On paper, this looks like a rehash of the Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G and you can order it in Malaysia starting this week.

Below is the official price of the Poco X4 Pro 5G in Malaysia:

In terms of pricing, the base model with 128GB storage is priced the same as the Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G (6GB RAM + 128GB storage – RM1,199). Unlike the Redmi Note 11 Pro device which maxes out with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage (RRP: RM1,299), Poco is offering 256GB storage for the 8GB RAM variant. This is also the first Poco mid-range smartphone with 256GB of storage.

Poco X4 Pro 5G Specs
During the launch event, the Poco X4 Pro 5G is shown as the successor to the Poco X3 Pro. Instead of having a plastic back, the new device looks more upmarket with a glass back, and it is thinner and lighter than its predecessor. Upfront, it gets a 6.67″ AMOLED display, which is a first for a Poco X series model. It pushes a Full HD+ resolution along with a high 120Hz refresh rate and a 360Hz touch sampling rate. The display pushes a peak brightness of 1200 nits and a 4,500,000:1 contrast ratio. For better durability, the screen comes protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5.
Under the hood, it runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 695 5G chipset which is paired with up to 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 256GB of UFS 2.2 storage. The processor seems to be a downgrade considering the Poco X3 Pro was running on a flagship-class Qualcomm Snapdragon 860. Performance-wise, the Snapdragon 695 5G chip is claimed to outperform Snapdragon 700 series processor despite having a 600 series name. The Snapdragon 695 chip has an Antutu score of 392,393, which is higher than the Snapdragon 750G (388,469) and the Snapdragon 765G (384,469).
If you need more storage, you can still expand further via a microSD card up to 1TB. The Poco X4 Pro also gets a Dynamic RAM Expansion technology which allows you to expand up to 8GB of virtual RAM using your available storage.
In the camera department, it gets a triple-camera setup which includes a high-resolution 108MP main camera that uses a large 1/1.52″ image sensor. Also included is an 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera and a 2MP macro shooter. For selfies, the device also gets a 16MP front camera that sits in a punch-hole on the display.
The Poco X4 Pro 5G also retains the 3.5mm headphone jack, dual speakers and IR blaster from the X3 Pro. In terms of connectivity, it supports 5G with sub-6GHz bands, Bluetooth 5.1, 802.11ac WiFi 5 and NFC. For instant unlocking, it gets a side-mounted fingerprint sensor instead of an in-display fingerprint sensor.
Powering the device is a large 5,000mAh which supports 67W turbocharging. According to Poco, you can get a full charge in 41 minutes and the 67W power adapter is included in the box. Despite being a 2022 device, it still runs on Android 11 with MIUI 13 for POCO skin on top.
Overall, this is a cheaper alternative to the Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G if you can get it with a discount during the online mega sales. Unlike Redmi’s more understated look, the Poco X4 Pro 5G stands out with its huge camera bump that carries a prominent “Poco” branding. If both the Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G and Poco X4 Pro 5G are offered at the same price, which would you pick?
