Jollibee, the Filipino fast-food franchise, has just opened its doors to West Malaysia for the first time—so you don’t need to fly all the way to Sabah for it. You can find the outlet in Sunway Pyramid—specifically on LG2, Blue Atrium. But, is it worth it to visit?
If you’re thinking about visiting the first Jollibee in West Malaysia, I need to make sure that you know the outlet is not that big—it takes up one shop lot in the Sunway Pyramid mall, right next to Seoul Garden. Its sitting areas are also not that big, either. So, you’re either going to get a little cramped up or resort to take away.
The restaurant itself has a bit of a vintage vibe to it, with orange and white colours surrounding the space. But it still has a couple modern self-service ordering kiosks customers can use–so it’s not totally vintage.
But if you’ve visited Jollibee before (Jollibee has 1,500 outlets worldwide, including in Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and North America), and you want your fix of the Chickenjoy and Jolly Spaghetti, you’re in luck! Alex, who has had Jollibee before, said that the Jollibee in Sunway Pyramid tasted just as similar as the Jollibee in the Philippines—except that it’s missing the non-halal Palabok (just as a note, the Jollibee in Sunway Pyramid is Halal-certified!).
But for those of you who are new to the Jollibee experience, you might not be as into the food if you don’t have a sweet tooth. Jollibee’s famous Jolly Spaghetti is a Filipino sweet style interpretation of spaghetti, with meat, sausage, and cheese. Most of us who tried it weren’t that keen on eating it again, as it does taste a little dessert-y.
As for the Chickenjoy—it’s basically regular good-old fried chicken, with an additional tub of gravy for you to dip the chicken in. Personally, I thought that the gravy was a bit bland and that the mashed potato gravy from KFC has more flavour. The fried chicken itself is pretty crunchy, but doesn’t have the same crunch power as KFC or Texas Chicken. You can pick either the regular ChickenJoy or the Spicy ChickenJoy.
You can get a set of both the Jolly Spaghetti and Chickenjoy together—and we tried the set with two pieces of Chickenjoy—which costs RM19.49. Their set also includes a drink, mashed potato, and coleslaw. The mashed potato was kinda basic, but the coleslaw has bits of pineapple in it! Like the spaghetti, it’s also a little sweet.
Jollibee also has a couple of dessert options—including the Vanilla Swirl and the Sundae. The Sundae is vanilla ice cream with some chocolate sauce, but honestly, the McDonald’s chocolate sundae has thicker and better-tasting chocolate sauce.
Overall, I did like the sweet style spaghetti because I have a sweet tooth. But if you’re not that into sweet savoury meals, you should instead opt for just the Chickenjoy if you want to try Jollibee. Let me know in the comments if you would visit Jollibee in Sunway Pyramid!
