With the Lunar New Year approaching, many of us are starting to think about giving gifts and Angpau. In this new technological age, why use actual Ringgit bills when you can send a digital gift that can be used right away?
Grab has decided to join the metaverse by releasing Little Huat, a cute little Augmented Reality (AR) tiger that you can send to your friends and family via GrabGifts.
What exactly is GrabGifts?
A lot of us use Grab for e-hailing and even food delivery with GrabFood, but not a lot of people know about GrabGifts which recently just had a total overhaul & re-launch, for it to sit within the Grab Superapp natively, with a whole new host of features for users to enjoy If your friends and family use Grab often, then GrabGifts is a great way to show your appreciation, especially during this new normal.
GrabGifts allows you to send online Grab gift vouchers to your loved ones across Southeast Asia. This includes Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and the Philippines. To access the feature, you can click on the ‘Gifts’ tile in the Grab app.
Once you’re on the GrabGifts page, you can send gifts for any occasion, including birthdays, when you’re thankful, and even when you miss someone. What’s cool about GrabGifts is that you can send multiple gift voucher options. This means that the recipient can choose between the three options you chose for them. These options include Grab Transport, GrabFood, GrabMart, Grab Express, and even chains like Starbucks, Pizza Hut, and KFC.
Another thing you can do is customise your digital gift card by writing a message and choosing a different gift card design depending on the occasion. Now, you can attach Grab’s new Lucky Tiger ‘Little Huat’, and the little tiger friend will be animated in AR.
Once you send a gift with the AR tiger, the recipient will be able to see the tiger in their own homes with the power of augmented reality. They can also snap a picture of the tiger and share it online. This would be a cool way to introduce the concept of AR to those who haven’t tried it before, and it’s a wholesome way to connect with those who you can’t meet in real life yet.
Supported phones include the iPhone 6S onwards, running on iOS 12+, as well as phones on Android 7.0+ that are installed with AR Core. Basically, if you have a phone from the past six years, it will probably work.
The AR tiger is available on the app right now! You can try it out in the Grab Superapp on your phone. Or alternatively, click https://grb.to/3IQYJFc with your mobile phone to access it immediately!
