To increase the COVID-19 vaccine booster coverage, the Ministry of Health has announced that all four Mega PPVs in the Klang Valley will accept walk-ins to all adults (aged 18 years old and above) starting tomorrow, 27th January 2022. Boosters are currently recommended to provide optimum levels of immunity to protect against the threat of the Omicron variant.
The four Mega PPVs are World Trade Centre in Kuala Lumpur, Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil, Ideal Convention Centre in Shah Alam and Soka Gakkai in Klang. The four PPVs had started operations on 15th January 2022 for appointments only and it was recently opened for walk-ins for senior citizens since 19th January 2022. The four vaccination centres are open from 9am to 8pm daily (until 4pm for Soka Gakkai) except for public holidays.
According to the statement, the 4 Mega PPVs will be offering AstraZeneca for boosters. Pfizer vaccines are available for selected individuals including pregnant women who have an appointment and individuals who are medically contraindicated to AstraZeneca vaccines.
The Ministry of Health is recommending boosters to individuals who have been fully vaccinated at least 3 months ago (2 months for individuals fully vaccinated with Johnson & Johnson). Both Pfizer and AstraZeneca are recommended for boosters. However, Sinovac recipients with severe allergies or who can’t take mRNA vaccines due to health reasons may get Sinovac as a booster.
Before going to the PPV to get your booster shot, it is recommended that you have sufficient rest and have a proper meal. You will be required to bring your identification card or passport, along with your proof of vaccination such as the vaccination card or digital vaccine certificate in MySejahtera. If you’re not feeling well or have a high-risk COVID-19 status, you should defer your booster appointment.
As of 25th January 2022, 47.5% of the total adult population nationwide have received their booster. In the Klang Valley alone, 68.2% of adults have been boosted, while Sarawak currently leads with a 69.5% of its adult population boosted.
