Looks like nobody’s sick of Baby Shark just yet—it’s now the first YouTube video with 10 billion views

It’s time to congratulate your kids—or yourselves—for contributing to the popular Baby Shark music video on YouTube now surpassing 10 billion views on the platform. The second most-viewed is currently Luis Fonsi’s Despacito—with 7.7 billion views.

At the time of writing, Baby Shark Dance has a total of 10,006,951,587 views. That’s a heck of a lot for a short 2-minute video about a family of sharks, but it’s not completely surprising.

A product by Korean educational entertainment company, Pink Fong, the Baby Shark music video was posted in June of 2016. But it didn’t gain traction until the year after that. In November of 2020, four years after it was uploaded, the music video became the “most-viewed” YouTube video of all time. The video reaching a whopping 10 billion views meant that Baby Shark achieved yet another milestone.

The song itself is not only an extremely popular bop, but its catchy tune has also infected pop culture. Shopee has even used the tune for their advertising—and it’s still in all of our heads.

The Baby Shark video isn’t the first Korean-based music video to reach an incredible milestone. Psy’s Gangnam Style was the first YouTube video to reach 1 billion views.

So, how did Baby Shark Dance even get this popular? Well, we know that YouTube videos for kids can often do quite well, as popular kids content creator Blippi will get more than a million views every video. Kids would also watch videos on repeat—like my little cousins with Disney’s Frozen. But 10 billion views is an amazing feat, so congratulations to Pink Fong.
