Galaxy S22: Malaysia may get the Snapdragon variant instead of Exynos

The Samsung Galaxy S22 series is expected to launch as early as 8th February. Traditionally, Samsung Malaysia offers the Exynos variant while select global markets including the United States and South Korea would get the Qualcomm Snapdragon version. Among the tech community, most power users would prefer a Qualcomm processor instead of Samsung’s Exynos, due to its performance and battery life advantage. For Malaysians hoping to get a new Snapdragon-powered Samsung flagship, there’s finally something to look forward to with the Galaxy S22.

Reports have indicated that Samsung has delayed the release of the Exynos 2200 which was meant to power its next generation flagship devices. Typically, Samsung would have introduced a new Exynos chip ahead of its new flagship phone launch but there’s no announcement so far. Serial leakster Ice Universe tweeted that the Exynos 2200 has been postponed and lately Samsung hasn’t had a smooth release for its new mobile processors. Samsung’s silicon division was supposed to release a mid-range Exynos 1200 chip in November but the product was cancelled.

With no brand new flagship Exynos chip for the first half of the year, Sammobile believes that Samsung will be offering Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 for all global markets including Malaysia. This should be good news for local Samsung fans as Samsung Malaysia typically offers high-end Qualcomm chips only on select devices like the Galaxy Z Fold and Flip series.

In the past year, the Galaxy S20 FE was a big hit as it was the only Samsung Galaxy S20 series device to run on a Snapdragon 865. The latest Samsung Galaxy S21 FE was launched last week but die-hard fans in Malaysia were disappointed to find that it runs on an Exynos 2100 instead of a Snapdragon 888. However, Samsung has given the device a pretty attractive pre-order deal where you can pick one up for as low as RM2,499, which is similar to the current price of the Galaxy S20 FE 5G 256GB.

Do note that these are just rumours for now. Hopefully, Samsung doesn’t rehash the current Exynos 2100 for its new Galaxy S22 series and we are getting the Snapdragon 8 gen 1 variant instead for our local market.
