Yes, the current and only telco to offer 5G services in Malaysia via Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB), has launched a new campaign to get more Malaysians to experience 5G for free. From 10th January to 14th February 2022, Yes is giving out free Yes FT5G Prepaid Discover SIM Pack where you can enjoy 5G with unlimited quota.

To sign up for the SIM, just register online with your personal details and delivery information. There’s no purchase required and the SIMs will be delivered directly to your doorstep. Do note that you must own a compatible 5G device and currently the network doesn’t support Samsung and iPhone devices. The 5G network currently works with mostly Chinese-branded phones such as Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo, Realme, Huawei, Honor and ZTE.

The Free Yes FT5G Discover Plan offers free unlimited 5G data, 10GB of 4G data, and unlimited calls and SMS to Yes’ numbers. The SIM is valid for 30 days but you should be able to continue if you activate a subscription plan after the free trial period is over. At the moment, Yes is offering unlimited 5G on prepaid for RM30/month and it also comes with unlimited 4G data capped at 7Mbps. Take note that the free 5G usage is offered until 31st March 2022 as part of DNB’s free access offer to telcos before the commercial wholesale deal is finalised.

Yes uses DNB’s 5G network and the coverage is currently limited to selected areas in Kuala Lumpur, Cyberjaya and Putrajaya. DNB promises that its network can deliver a minimum of 100Mbps at the weakest point of coverage. At optimal coverage locations, we could get over 1Gbps. Since it is still a new network, the coverage is very limited and you can expect issues when switching between the 4G and 5G networks. You can find out what we think in our first impressions using Yes 5G in Kuala Lumpur.
