The Samsung Galaxy S21 FE (Fan Edition) is now official and this is Samsung Malaysia’s new “affordable” model of the Galaxy S21 series. Similar to the previous Galaxy S20 FE, the Fan Edition aims to provide a flagship experience at a lower price point. If you’re interested, here’s everything you need to know about the S21 FE in Malaysia.
The Samsung Galaxy S21 FE is offered in two variants in Malaysia. Below is the official pricing:
As a comparison, the Galaxy S21 5G 256GB with a 6.2″ display is currently going for RM3,199 while the Galaxy S20 FE 5G 256GB is going for RM2,499.
Pre-order for the Galaxy S21 FE will begin from 6th January 2022 and Samsung Malaysia is offering a RM350 discount plus free one-year Samsung Care+. Buyers can also enjoy extra discounts for accessories and selected Samsung wearables. You can learn more about the Galaxy S21 FE pre-order deal here.
Unlike last year’s Galaxy S20 FE, the new S21 FE is offered with Samsung’s very own Exynos 2100 processor instead of a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. This is the same chip that’s powering the current Galaxy S21, S21+, and S21 Ultra in Malaysia.
Upfront, it has a 6.4″ Full HD+ AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, which is slightly smaller than the Galaxy S20 FE’s 6.5″ screen. The device comes with 8GB of RAM with a choice of 128GB or 256GB of storage, which unfortunately isn’t expandable via microSD.
In the camera department, it gets a triple-camera setup at the rear which includes a 12MP dual-pixel AF main camera with OIS, a 12MP ultra-wide-angle camera, and an 8MP telephoto camera that supports up to 30x Space zoom. Also included is a 32MP selfie camera that sits in a tiny punch-hole on the top of the display.
Powering the device is a 4,500mAh battery which is unchanged from its predecessor and it supports 25W fast wired charging via USB-C. It also supports 15W wireless charging and you can also use the Wireless PowerShare feature to charge other devices wirelessly. As part of its efforts to go green, the charger is not included in the box but you do get a USB-C cable and a SIM ejector pin.
Both Galaxy S21 FE variants support 5G as well as WiFi 6. As you would expect from a flagship device, it also has IP68-rated dust and water resistance, stereo speakers, and Samsung Pay support via NFC. Out of the box, it runs on Android 12 with One UI 4 skin on top. If you want to experience 5G, take note that Samsung devices are not supported on DNB’s 5G network at the moment.
