Starbucks Malaysia finally lets you order your drink before you arrive at the store

Starbucks Malaysia has finally rolled out its Mobile Order & Pay feature which lets you skip the queue and get your coffee fix early. Essentially, this is a pick-up service that you can order ahead of time using your Starbucks card credits.

According to Starbucks, the Mobile Order & Pay is currently offered at 25 pilot stores in the Klang Valley which include Starbucks Reserve Berjaya Times Square. To place an order, just launch the Starbucks app (Apple App Store, Google Play Store) and then tap on the “Order” tab. By default, there’s a pop-up video showing how to use the mobile order & pay feature, and you can click on “X” on the top left corner to continue.

Next, select your nearest Starbucks location and place your order. The dropdown list will display the distance of the store from your location and the estimated preparation time.

The app shows a full list of available beverages available including seasonal promotional products as well as non-caffeine beverages. You can also customise each drink with your preferred choice of milk (Soy, Oat, Almond, Coconut, Full cream, low fat, etc), extra syrup, and drizzle. If you’re ordering a Latte, the app only allows you to add up to 2 extra Espresso shots.

Unfortunately, it appears that you can’t order any food at the moment. So if you want to order cake or sandwiches with your drink, you’ll still have to go through the counter.

Once you’ve confirmed your order, you can proceed to pay using your Starbucks card credits. If it isn’t enough, you can reload online via credit or debit card. Take note that each card can hold up to RM500 worth of credit.

This mobile payment feature should have been introduced locally earlier as it has been rolled out in the US since 2015. According to The Verge, about 25% of Starbucks orders made in the US in Q4 2020 were using the Mobile Order and Pay feature.

In case you missed it, Starbucks Malaysia has finally fixed its annoying bug on the app which made it impossible for users to reset their passwords. On top of that, the app now lets you save your login session and you won’t need to reenter your password each time you use the Starbucks app.
