After a delay of nearly half a year, the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE is expected to be available starting 11th January 2022. This was revealed by serial leakster Evan Blass as well as Jon Prosser. The Galaxy S21 Fan Edition (FE) is Samsung’s equivalent to a “flagship killer” which offers high-end hardware at a lower price point.
According to Jon, Samsung has moved up its Galaxy S21 FE announcement to Monday, 3rd January at 6pm PST (10am 4th January, Malaysian time). However, the device will be available from the 11th of January 2022. Evan Blass aka @evleaks has indirectly confirmed the availability when he shared product images of the front of the display showing the date Tuesday, 11th January.
Since Malaysia is one of Samsung’s key markets, we expect local pricing and pre-order details to be revealed shortly after the global announcement. Malaysia was among the first wave countries to get the Galaxy S20 FE with pre-orders happening a day after the unpacked event. The Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 5G was launched at RM3,399 and a few months later, they introduced the LTE version which was offered for as low as RM2,299 during the first-day sale.
Evan has revealed a couple of marketing materials on Twitter that confirms the colour options for the device. The Galaxy S21 FE will be offered in Olive, Graphite, White and Lavender. The device features a 6.4″ Full HD+ 120Hz AMOLED display and it will run on a Snapdragon 888 processor. The device will come with a triple-camera setup which includes a 12MP main camera, 12MP ultra-wide-angle shooter and an 8MP telephoto camera. For selfies, the punch-hole on the screen houses a 32MP selfie camera.
Powering the device is a 4,500mAh battery and it supports both 25W wired fast charging and 15W fast wireless charging. It was speculated that the S21 FE could launch with Android 12 pre-installed, which means it could support all the way to Android 15 with Samsung’s 3-year OS promise. However, a recently leaked spec-sheet by Roland Quandt reveals that it would only come with Android 11.
Power users may be disappointed to know that the S21 FE will not come with a microSD card slot. Similar to last year’s model, it won’t come with a 3.5mm headphone jack. The Galaxy S21 FE was supposed to launch around Q3 of 2020 but apparently, it was postponed due to a shortage of chips and the popularity of the Galaxy Z Flip 3 series. If you’re in the market for a new affordable flagship phone, would you still consider Galaxy S21 FE which runs on a Snapdragon 888 that’s already a year old?
