[ UPDATE 15/12/2021 21:00 ] It appears that almost all banks in Malaysia will reinstate the RM1 interbank (MEPS Fee) ATM withdrawal fee from 1st February 2022.

===

CIMB just announced that they will be charging a RM1 fee again for ATM cash withdrawals done at non-CIMB machines. CIMB members can still withdraw cash with no fee using a CIMB Bank/CIMB Islamic ATM or self-service terminal. This change will be made on February 1st 2022. Here is the full statement posted on their Facebook page:

Dear Valued Customers,

Effective 1 February 2022, a transaction fee of RM1.00 will be charged for interbank cash withdrawal transactions performed other than at CIMB Bank/CIMB Islamic ATMs/self-service terminals.

You can continue to perform cash withdrawal transactions at our ATMs/self-service terminals without fee.

Thank you.

For the unaware, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced the RM1 inter-bank fee exemption in April 2020. This change was made to avoid crowding at banks in an effort to slow down the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

It was only supposed to take place until the end of MCO, but it was extended to an unknown date in October 2020. Now, CIMB has announced the February 1st date and other banks are expected to follow suit soon.

The government has also been pushing for more digital payments during the MCO period. This was done with their eBelia program providing up to RM150 of eWallet credit this year.
