Google’s Pixel 6a might have no headphone jack, but could still be the one to buy

While it’s fair to look at the Google Pixel 6 Pro as a landmark device—debuting the Google Tensor SoC and an all-new design—it is still a flagship smartphone with flagship smartphone prices, And while the regular Pixel 6 is more accessible, it’s still sitting in that premium mid-range/affordable flagship segment of the market.

For those who want the Pixel experience on a tighter budget, the device to look out for is the one bearing the “a” moniker, and it looks like we’re finally getting a first glimpse of what the upcoming Pixel 6a could look like.

These renders come courtesy of OnLeaks and 91Mobiles, and they give us a clear look at the design and physical features of the samartphone.

The first thing that stands out is the fact that the phone looks to carry on the Pixel 6’s design language. You get what looks like a clean two-tone back design, with the iconic camera bump stretching across the back of the phone. It’s also raised like its other Pixel 6 siblings, and I really like the way it looks. In that camera module, it looks like there will be a dual-camera setup with a flash on the far right.

If the leaks end up true, the smartphone will come with a smaller 6.2″ display, which makes it slightly smaller than the regular 6.4″ Pixel 6. There’s also a punch hole selfie camera that sits right in the middle of the display—where it should be. What’s also very obvious is the lack of a 3.5mm headphone jack, which means the Pixel 6a could join the new Samsung smartphones as the latest mid-range devices to drop this legacy port.

Besides that, not much else about the Pixel 6a’s specs have been leaked. 9to5Google believes that the phone will be powered by Google Tensor as well, which if that ends up being true, is good news considering the fact that it’s a flagship-class processor. If this ends up being true, the Pixel 6a looks like a nice upgrade from the Pixel 5a, which only came with a Snapdragon 765G processor.

What’ll likely make or break this device would be the price, but we don’t really have any indication on how much this phone will cost yet. For context, the Pixel 6 starts at USD599 (~RM2,505), while the Pixel 5a retails for USD449 (~RM1,878).
