They made another camera for hipsters

Fujifilm is launching a new film-digital hybrid camera called the ‘Instax Mini Evo’. This device joins the Yashica Y35 in cameras that blur the line between film and digital. Just like other hybrid instant cameras, the Mini Evo features an LCD monitor, but still keeps the analog feel with its vintage design. This camera comes with lots of additional features, as well as a print lever, lens dial, and film dial. These act as controls for the camera, allowing users to select effect with the dials and print by pulling the lever.

What can the Fujifilm Instax Mini Evo do?

The Mini Evo boasts ‘100 ways of expression’, which comes from its 10 lens effects and 10 film effects. Lens effects are things that affect the light like ‘Double Exposure’ and ‘Light Leak’, while film effects are like regular filters affecting the colour.

You can use the 3.0-inch LCD monitor to check the live view of your photos. To change the lens effects, you have to twist the lens dial. If you want to select a film effect, just scroll through the film dial. The print lever is placed at the bottom right of the device and triggers the camera to instantly print the picture.

According to Fujifilm, the resolution of exposure has been doubled compared to previous Instax camera models, which would lead to higher quality prints.

There’s also a dedicated app to link the camera with your smartphone. It works two ways, being able to send and receive pictures with your phone. This means that you will be able to send the pictures from the camera to your phone, and you will be able to print photos taken on your phone. Unfortunately, the camera still charges via microUSB.

You can also attach accessories like LED lights or viewfinders to the shoe of your camera to spice up your shots even more.

Personally, I just think the design is really cool and a lot of people will get the camera just as an accessory or a fashion statement.

Pricing and Availability

The new Fujifilm Instax Mini Evo will be in stores in Japan on December 3, 2021, but will take a little while longer to reach other countries. There is no local pricing yet, but it will cost $199.95 (about RM835) in the US.
