Last month, Apple did the most Apple-like thing yet and released a RM99 Polishing Cloth. Even though the product did quite well sales-wise, it was the butt of many jokes from the tech community.
Samsung took aim at Apple and made fun of them by offering a free cloth to German Samsung Members users. For those who don’t know, Samsung Members is a community app for Galaxy smartphone users where enthusiasts can share exclusive deals with each other.
First discovered by Dutch blog Galaxy Club, the offer included 1,000 units of a 20cm by 20cm “velvety soft cleaning cloth” for buyers of any Galaxy smartphone.
A translation of the blog post:
With this promotion, Samsung is once again building on the rivalry with Major Competitor (in capital letters via the marketing department) Apple. The latter caused a stir at a recent event with the launch of a polishing cloth for your iPhone. Price tag €25. Apple’s cloth measures 16 by 16 centimeters, so purely on specifications, Samsung’s free cloth wins the comparison. It’s over 50% bigger – and €25 cheaper.

Unfortunately, it seems like the all 1,000 units were already claimed, but who knows? Maybe this offer will extend to other countries in the future.
This is a continuation of Samsung’s long-standing rivalry with Apple. Another recent instance would be when Samsung made fun of Apple’s exclusion of a charger with their phones. However, that backfired and Samsung had to delete their posts two months later because the Galaxy S21s also did not come with a charging brick.
