These hilarious new Animal Crossing features are blowing up on Twitter

I’ve previously reported that Nintendo’s Animal Crossing: New Horizons game was releasing their last free major update on 5 November. However, the update was released two days early—much to the delight of Animal Crossing fans. And honestly? Some of these new features look extremely fun and meme-able.

If you need a run-down of what is showing up when you next update your Animal Crossing game, you can read through the gist I wrote earlier. It includes a cafe called The Roost where you can have a cup of coffee with your friends and villagers, a Group Stretching feature where you can follow along to a stretch workout, and the ability to cook up food with DIY recipes—amongst other things.

But there were a couple of surprises that I didn’t anticipate with the new update. These might be considered tiny features of the game, but it certainly tugged the hearts of several Twitter users who couldn’t get enough of them. Here are the features you need to try out:

Fisheye lens

I spent a generous amount of time in my day today looking through the Animal Crossing fish eye lens-related posts people have added on Twitter. It’s such a silly little addition to the already bountiful update, but it has gotten many of us tickled seeing our favourite villagers and characters in fisheye lens mode.

The fisheye lens is just one of the new features in your game’s Pro Camera. It also includes first-person photos and add-on filters, but nothing else will give you goofier photos. To use the feature, you need to purchase the Pro Camera for 1,500 Nook Miles.

Gyroids

Gyroids, which were a thing in previous Animal Crossing games, are back now—and they’re so stinkin’ funny. They’re unusual little cactus-style items that may or may not be sentient, and Twitter users have already been sharing their collection. They don’t really have a practical purpose, but the game has various types of gyroids you can collect and you can even make them dance to music.

If you want your own gyroid, you need to take a boat trip with Kapp’n for 1,000 Nook Miles. Kapp’n will take you on a mysterious island, where you will be able to see X-shaped holes in the ground. Dig them up to find yourself a gyroid fragment, which you will need to take back home, bury it, water it, and wait until you see a puff of steam the next day. You should then be able to dig your own gyroid from the ground.

You can cook your sea bass now

If you’re a player of New Horizons, you would know how often sea bass would show up in the game. And before the new update, you can only really donate fish to the museum or sell it.

Now, the DIY cooking update lets you turn the sea bass you catch into a meal—to the delight of Animal Crossing players alike. Frustrated that the fish you catch isn’t a cool shark? Another sea bass? No worries! Cook it up with a clump of weeds to make something delicious.

Other notable new features include this horrifying rescue mannequin item you can get, a dormant volcano, and other adorable new items. There’s bound to be a lot more small but funny updates we still have yet to notice, so if you find any do let me know what they are.
