Jollibee not only has a popular following in its home country, but the popular Filipino fast-food joint has made its way to the U.S. and Canada. It made its comeback to Malaysia in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah in 2018, but Jollibee is finally opening in Sunway Pyramid as its first outlet in Klang Valley.
I’ve never had Jollibee, but it’s known for its Chickenjoy—which is its hand-breaded fried chicken is made with a secret marinade. The meal would also come with a side of gravy called “ethereal”, and you can usually order it as a combo with Jolly Spaghetti.
According to Seats.my, Jollibee has previously already made its way to Sabah in the 1990s. Unfortunately, it had to shut down in 1997 due to the Asian Financial crisis. In 2018, the chain made a comeback in Kota Kinabalu as well, due to a large Filipino community in Sabah. The outlet in Kota Kinabalu has also received Halal certification in 2019.
Jollibee will open at Sunway Pyramid next to Seoul Garden in LG2. The outlet is expected to open by end of December, according to Bandar Sunway Today.
In addition to the upcoming outlet, Jollibee Foods Corporation announced that the company has plans to launch more than 100 outlets in West Malaysia—in 2022. You can follow their Facebook page if you’d like to stay updated with what’s next for Jollibee in Malaysia.
