Your kids can finally play Roblox again after what must have been a stressful weekend-long outage

If you have kids, they might have faced a stressful weekend without Roblox, as the online game platform had been offline since 28 October. However, they’d be pleased to know that after three days of an outage, Roblox finally went back online.

Roblox is back online. Thanks again for your understanding and support. Our CEO, David Baszucki, shared an update on the outage and steps taken to address it. https://t.co/vUXzzzCNJZ

“We will publish a post-mortem with more details once we’ve completed our analysis, along with the actions we’ll be taking to avoid such issues in the future. In addition, we will implement a policy to make our creator community economically whole as a result of this outage. There are more details on this to come,” wrote Roblox CEO David Baszucki in a blog post.

The platform started having problems from around 28 October, 7pm EST (7am Malaysian time). Roblox also confirmed the problem on Twitter, saying that they’re “sorry” and are “working hard to get things back to normal”.

According to the platform, the outage involved “a combination of several factors”. Roblox fans have blamed American fast-food chain Chipotle for the outage as there was an official crossover event at around the same time. The event lets Roblox players dress up in a Chipotle-inspired costume, and visit a cashier for a free burrito that can be redeemed at a Chipotle restaurant in real life. However, Roblox stressed that the outage was “not due to any peak in external traffic or any particular experience”.

Roblox also stated that the recovery took longer than expected due to the “difficulty in diagnosing the actual bug”. They also said that there should be no loss of player persistence data and that your Roblox experience “should now be fully back to normal”.

It was a surprisingly long outage period, and it is inconvenient that it happened over the weekend—as many kids would have probably looked to Roblox for a place to unwind. The popular game platform has more than 40 million daily users, and more than 50 percent of Roblox players are under the age of 13.

The platform is also home to an insane amount of Squid Game-inspired “experiences”. This includes being able to play Red Light, Green Light—which is pretty fun, if I do say so myself.
