Xiaomi has just announced their latest wearable device, the Redmi Smart Band Pro. This is an updated version of the Redmi Smart Band that launched last year, but it looks a lot like the Mi Smart Band 6. If you’ve never heard of the Redmi Smart Band, I don’t blame you. The band never made it to Malaysia but a similar band was sold here as the Mi Smart Band 4C.
Since the Redmi Smart Band Pro has a lot of similarities to the Mi Smart Band 6, we will be comparing the two to find out which one is better.
The Smart Band Pro has a clean design that compliments its black band frame and strap. Compared to the Mi Smart Band 6’s 1.56-inch AMOLED display, the Smart Band Pro has a smaller 1.47-inch AMOLED screen with the same maximum brightness of 450 nits. It also has a lower pixel density of 282ppi compared to the Mi Smart Band 6’s 326ppi.
The device is reinforced with 2.5D tempered glass and is rated with 5 ATM water resistance which allows up to 50m of submersion, just like the Smart Band 6.
Similarly to the Smart Band 6, the Smart Band Pro can measure your stress levels, sleep quality, and blood oxygen level. This data can be shared with supported apps like Strava and Apple Health. Unfortunately, both devices lack a built-in GPS sensor.
One thing the Band Pro does better is the number of workout modes. Compared to the 30 modes on the Band 6, Xiaomi promises more than 110 workout modes including running, swimming, and even yoga. The device automatically detects when a workout is taking place and measures the calories burned and heart rate variance, but the automatic detection only works with the treadmill, outdoor running, and outdoor walking.
Another difference between the two devices is the battery, with a 200mAh battery powering the Smart Band Pro compared to the 125mAh battery powering the Band 6. Funnily enough, they both provide 14 days of typical usage and up to around 20 days in power-saving mode. This is likely due to the Band Pro having an always-on display, which was absent in the Band 6. Both of them also feature magnetic wireless charging.
Overall, the Redmi Smart Band Pro is definitely an upgrade compared to the previous Redmi version, but the smaller screen makes it slightly worse than the Mi Smart Band 6.
They also announced the Redmi Watch 2 Lite, which is more of a smartwatch than a band. It comes with a 1.55-inch LCD screen and is also rated for water resistance up to 50m in depth. The Watch 2 Lite comes with a 262mAh battery, providing 10 days of regular usage.
The pricing and availability has not been officially confirmed yet, but the Redmi Smart Band Pro has been speculated to cost around EUR 59 (about RM282), which is slightly higher than Mi Smart Band 6’s EUR 54.99 (RM263) price tag.
