Back in July 2021, Apple committed to be 100% carbon neutral for its supply chain and products by 2030, which is 20 years earlier than the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) targets.
Recently, Apple provided an update on the status of their environmental commitments. According to the report, Apple has increased the number of carbon neutral suppliers by more than double.
There will be a total of 175 Apple suppliers transitioning to renewable energy, bringing more than 9 GW of renewable power to the world. This change will effectively avoid 18 million metric tons of CO2e every year, which is the equivalent of taking four million cars off the road annually. Overall, Apple has reduced their carbon emissions by 40% over the past five years.
Apple also claimed to be already carbon neutral across all of their corporate operations, but plan to make every Apple device carbon neutral by 2030.
Power for Impact
As part of their new Power for Impact program, Apple is announcing support for 10 renewable projects to bring clean energy technology to the world, including some of our neighbours.
In the Philippines, Apple is installing rooftop solar panels to offset electricity expenses. Using this money, they will fund scholarships to high-achieving, under-resourced students in the country.
Over in Thailand, Apple is increasing renewable energy production, as well as helping out a remote fishing village. The village relies on diesel fuel in order to power their refrigerators for fish products, so Apple will replace the fuel with a greener alternative.
In Vietnam, Apple will provide solar power for 20 schools and educate kids all over the country about sustainability and STEM.

They are also doing seven other projects in other countries such as South Africa and Colombia, and will continue to focus on communities most affected my climate change.
