The DJI Action 2 is finally revealed and this is the successor to the Osmo Action camera. Instead of going for a GoPro-ish design, DJI is now taking on the modular approach similar to the Insta360 One R. To make it super versatile, the Action 2 uses magnets and lots of them. If you’re interested to get one, the DJI Action 2 is already available in Malaysia with prices starting from RM1,999.
DJI Action 2 Malaysia pricing and availability
The base DJI Action 2 Power Combo is officially priced at RM1,999. It comes with the DJI Action 2, DJI Action 2 Power Module, Magnetic Lanyard, Magnetic Adapter Mount, and one USB-C cable.
Meanwhile, the DJI Action 2 Dual-Screen Combo is priced at RM2,499 and it comes with more accessories. Besides the Action 2, you get a DJI Action 2 Front Touchscreen Module, a Magnetic Lanyard, Magnetic Ball-joint adapter mount, Magnetic Adapter mount and a USB-C cable.
Both DJI Action 2 combos are now available for purchase via DJI Malaysia’s official store on both Lazada and Shopee.
DJI Action 2 Hardware Specs
In terms of design, the DJI Action 2 is impressively tiny and it’s smaller than the GoPro session. The camera itself weighs just 56 grams and has a thickness of just 22.3mm. Behind the camera, it comes with a 1.76″ touch-screen display that pushes 446×434 pixels resolution. It is also waterproof up to 10 metres and you can go up to 60 metres deep when you use the waterproof case.
The DJI Action 2 comes with a larger 1/1.7″ CMOS sensor that’s capable of recording 4K videos up to 120fps or 12MP stills. It boasts a wide 155-degree field of view and comes with DJI’s RockSteady 2.0 Electronic Image Stabiliser Technology as well as HorizonSteady. The Action 2 can do slow-mo up to 240fps at 1080p or 120fps in 4K resolution.
Internally, it has 32GB of storage and you can add a microSD card up to a maximum of 256GB.
The standalone camera comes with a 580mAh battery which is rated to last up to 70 minutes on a single charge. However, you can attach additional modules to extend the operating time. The Power Module comes with a 1,300mAh battery and it provides a total operating time of 180 minutes. Meanwhile, the Front Touchscreen Module is also equipped with a 1,300mAh battery but it has a shorter total operating time of 160 minutes, which is to be expected due to the extra screen. Besides providing a secondary display for the front, the Touchscreen Module also features 3 built-in mics for better audio recording.
Do note that the extra modules are not waterproof and you’ll need a waterproof case if you plan on using the combo setup for wet environments.
Thanks to its small form factor, the DJI Action 2 is practical as a wearable camera. You can mount it on your forehead with the DJI Action 2 Magnetic Headband or mount it on your chest like Ironman using the Magnetic Lanyard.
DJI has also released an array of magnetic mounts and adapters which allows you to mount the Action 2 practically anywhere. The standalone camera module itself is magnetic and you can stick it onto any metal surface.
DJI has also released a 3-in-1 Remote Control Extension Rod which allows you to use it as a selfie stick, a tripod, or both. Also included is a detachable remote to control the camera. If you need to record things up close, there’s also the macro lens add-on that also attaches magnetically over the main camera unit.
Overall, the DJI Action 2 is an interesting compact action camera and it competes directly with the GoPro Hero 10 Black which is priced at RM2,399. However, the Hero 10 Black still has the upper hand of being able to record videos at a higher resolution of 5.3K 60fps and it also supports 240fps slo-mo at a higher 2.7K resolution. On top of that, the GoPro already has a built-in front screen, and if you want that on the DJI Action 2, you’ll have to go for the more expensive combo which costs RM2,499.
