Waze is testing “full dark mode”. Here’s how different it is from the current dark mode

I know what you might be thinking—doesn’t Waze already have dark mode? Well, sort of. Waze is currently testing out “full dark mode” for select users, which will also include dark mode for when you’re trying to type in locations on the app.

Currently, even if you’ve selected the “Night” colour scheme in your Map display section, you’re still unable to change the light background when you’re trying to search for locations. The light background could be too piercing for your eyes, and it can be dangerous when using the app at night while driving.

Waze is reportedly rolling out an “alpha” version of the app—which includes a full dark mode to a limited group of users. However, the “alpha” version of the update is considered “buggy”, which might mean that it will be a while before the final version is released to the public.

I’ve never noticed how weird it is that the search area of the Waze app (iOS, Android) is bright, even if I’ve opted to use Night mode. Hopefully, it would be introduced after they’ve fixed all their bugs in their “alpha” version.

Earlier this month, Waze introduced its partnership with Headspace for World Mental Health Day. The Headspace experience includes a selection of 5 moods and the ability to swap out the in-app car icon for a serene ride in a hot air balloon.
