This iPhone 13 case that can shoot candy into your mouth might be the future of phone cases

As someone who switches her phone case pretty often, I get a little giddy when I find a unique and fun phone case. And even though it’s not entirely practical, I was severely tickled to learn that YouTuber Matty Benedetto of Unnecessary Inventions created a “candy catapult” case for the iPhone 13 Pro Max that is able to shoot candy into your mouth.

Benedetto started by finding the measurements for his iPhone 13 Pro Max that he ordered online, which he looked up on Apple’s website. He then 3D-printed a simple case based on the measurements from flexible TPU filament. The case is able to absorb impact of falls and drops, but it is also a great base for something as wild as a candy catapult.

Most of the candy catapult’s attachments are also 3D-printed, and you can watch his journey and thought process in his video above. The pieces include a spring loader mechanism to help launch the small pieces of candy pinball-style. If you pull back the plunger, a piece of candy is loaded through a small hole. And when you release the “catapult”, the candy is either launched clear across the room or into a waiting mouth—depending on how well you can catch food with your mouth.

Benedetto then laser-cut acrylic panes as the “glass covers” that stops the candy from falling out. To insert the candy, you can simply take out the pane to add the candy in. You’re then able to add the acrylic pane back on the case.

Once you’ve added your own small candy concontion (Benedetto added both chocolate pieces and Skittles, which doesn’t seem like a great combination), you can go ahead and try to shoot the candy from the catapult and try to catch it with your mouth. While it’s a fun idea for a phone case, it’s pretty impractical—especially if you’re using the case in Malaysia’s hot and humid weather… The chocolate would melt pretty quickly.

Still, it’s a phone case I would not mind getting if it was available. Granted, it would not fit any of my tiny bags, let alone my pocket. It’ll also be pretty awkward to hold if you’re taking a call or if you’re just casually using it especially with the huge iPhone 13 Pro Max. But what do you think?
