Report: Apple Watch Series 7 might be available for pre-order this month

During the recent iPhone 13 announcement, Apple had also introduced its new Apple Watch Series 7. Unfortunately, the Cupertino-based company didn’t reveal its pricing and specific availability details during the event. If you’re waiting to get the new Apple smartwatch, it looks like the device might go on sale sometime in October according to Jon Prosser of FrontPageTech.

His sources have indicated that pre-orders for the Apple Watch may happen as early as this week and it may ship in mid-October. Typically, Apple opens pre-orders on a Friday so it might be possible that customers in first-wave countries such as the US, UK, Singapore and Australia can pre-order online on 8th October.

According to Apple Track, emails from luxury brand Hermès have also indicated that the Apple Watch Series 7 will be available for pre-order beginning 8th October. The Apple Watch Series 7 will be priced from USD 399 (about RM1,665) which is the same price as the Series 6 at the time of launch. As a reference, the Apple Watch Series 6 is priced from RM1,749 for the 40mm GPS model and from RM1,899 for the larger 44mm GPS model.

If you want to buy the Apple Watch Series 7 locally, we reckon that Malaysians might need to wait for at least several weeks after first-wave countries. The iPhone 13 and 13 Pro series were released locally two weeks after first-wave countries.

The Apple Watch Series 7 now comes in larger 41mm and 45mm sizes and it boasts a 20% larger screen area thanks to its thinner bezels. Although the sizes are different, it is still compatible with previous watch bands released for the first generation model. Durability for the screen has been improved with a “crack-resistant front crystal”. The glass is 50% thicker than the Series 6 and Apple claims it to be the most durable Apple Watch yet. The new smartwatch is water-resistant up to 50-metres and it also gets IP6X dust resistance as well.

Charging has been improved with a new USB-C based charger which pushes 0-80% charge in 45 minutes. If you’re in a rush, a quick 8-minute charge is enough to push 8 hours of battery life for sleep tracking. The base model with an aluminium case now comes in 5 colours – Midnight, Starlight, Green, Blue and Red. The Series 7 is also available in stainless steel and titanium finishes.
